Harper is a wonderful and bright child that our team had the pleasure of connecting with via social media. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with SMA which is a genetic disorder caused by a lack of nerve cells (survival motor neurons)that control muscle movement. It is characterized by weakness and atrophy of the muscles. Diagnosed with the most aggressive type of SMA Harper would likely not make it to her 2nd birthday unless treated as soon as possible. . At the time, they needed to raise 2.8 million dollars for the most expensive drug in the world, ZOLGENSMA. Despite her young age and condition, her smile and positivity was infectious to our team. Youth Rising decided to come together for Harper and raise as much money as we could for her treatment. By selling Krispy Kreme donuts and sharing Harper's with local community members, we were able to raise approximately $1000 dollars for Harper and contribute to her fight against SMA. Thankfully, Harper has now received her treatment and is on a path to a long and healthy life.
